CBCT Imaging Principles: Live Software Applications

CBCT imaging enhances and changes the way dentists can diagnose and assess patient anatomy. We can look at patient anatomy in 3D and any structure can be cross-sectioned into 2D slices for detailed assessments and measurements. These abilities provide tremendous potential but also create new challenges such as: where to start, what anatomy to look at, how to cross-section the anatomy properly, and what are some foundational imaging principles that can be applied to every case? The goal of this webinar is to clarify some of these questions and to provide an organizational framework by which dentists can approach CBCT scans with a clinically correct method.

Upon completion of this CE activity attendee will be able to:

  • Conceptualize the rationale for 3D imaging and how 3D imaging enhances diagnostics beyond 2D imaging.
  • Understand how to asses and visualize patient CBCT data properly in 3D and 2D cross-sections for a variety of clinical applications
  • To see the advantages to the patient and including how much easier it is on them in comfort, cost and longevity

Foundations of CBCT Imaging for Implant Planning and Surgical Guide

The use of CBCT imaging has drastically enhanced and changed the way dentists can diagnose and assess patient anatomy in preparation for implant placement. Now, with a single CBCT scan the patient’s entire craniofacial complex can be visualized and viewed from every angle in 3D and any structure can be cross-sectioned into 2D slices for detailed assessments and measurements.

Furthermore, virtual implant planning within the CBCT scans can be performed and converted into a physical surgical guide that can be used during surgery. These abilities give the clinician tremendous potential but also create new challenges such as: where to start, what anatomy to look at, how to cross-section the anatomy properly, and what are the protocols and steps for ordering a surgical guide?

The purpose of this CE webinar is to clarify some of these questions, to provide an organizational framework by which clinicians can approach CBCT scans, and to review the terminology, capabilities and protocols of surgical guides.

Upon completion of this CE activity attendee will be able to:

  • Conceptualize how CBCT imaging enhances the diagnostic potential and accuracy of implant planning beyond traditional 2D images.
  • Assess and visualize patient CBCT data properly in 3D and 2D cross-sections for virtual implant planning and to summarize which anatomical structures are critical to examine.
  • Discuss the terminology, capabilities, and tools needed for the various levels of control that surgical guides offer.

Learn Why Orthodontists Can't Treat 40% of their Patients Properly with 2D Radiographs

The vast majority of orthodontists today only take 2D radiographs of their patients. Unfortunately, 2D radiographs do not help the clinician detect a fulcrum in the asymptomatic patient. Dr. Ron Roth knew that this fulcrum existed on many of his patients --he would have loved a CBCT scan machine.

Dr. Bob Kaspers will show how a CBCT scan can help orthodontists diagnose their patients more accurately than with 2D radiographs. He will also show the clinician the importance of addressing the vertical dimension to enable the patient to achieve a seated condylar position at the end of orthodontic treatment. If you want to make your referring dentists happy, you will want to learn this technique.

Sealing the Root Canal System: The Continuous Wave of Condensation

Debridement and disinfection of the root canal system is of paramount importance in order to achieve the biologic imperative of root canal treatment; that being to eliminate and/or prevent apical periodontitis. Once the smear layer and biofilm is removed, the root canal system must be obturated in three dimensions to prevent leakage then subsequently restored to bring the tooth back into normal function.

This Viva Learning™ CE webinar will focus on evidence based research on sealing the root canal system with respect to obturation in three dimensions and restoration of the endodontically treated tooth. Focus will be on the Continuous Wave of Condensation.

Upon completion of this CE webinar , the student will be able to:
• understand the objectives of endodontic obturation
• become familiar with the Continuous Wave of Condensation
• implement the Continuous Wave of Condensation in your practice
• understand the importance of the post endodontic restoration

Classroom Superior Root Canal Disinfection Leading To Increased Endodontic Success

Successful endodontic therapy is dependent upon the removal of microorganisms from the root canal system. Much emphasis in endodontics during the last 20 years has been directed toward more efficient ways to "shape" the root canal system. Endodontic files fabricated from nickel-titanium alloys and a variety of sophisticated rotary systems have allowed us to shape root canals better than we have ever done in the past. Then why have endodontic outcome studies failed to show an increase in endodontic success? The answer is that no file has ever disinfected a root canal system. Irrigants and how they are delivered is how we can disinfect a root canal system. This, in turn, leads to increased success.

On the surface this might seem easy to accomplish. Through further investigation, we understand that this is not the case. Traditional irrigation involves using a needle to inject irrigants into the root canal system via positive pressure. This is not only ineffective in the critical apical one-third, it can also be dangerous depending on the irrigants used. Studies show that apical negative pressure irrigation is a safe and effective way to disinfect the entire root canal system.

This Viva Learning™ CE webinar will cover apical negative pressure irrigation and an advanced instrumentation technique that facilitates its use.

Upon completion of this CE webinar, the student will be able to:

  • Learn a simplified technique for achieving effective root canal disinfection.
  • Understand the rational of an advanced instrumentation technique.
  • Gain the knowledge to be able to treat both vital and non-vital teeth in one visit.
  • Take away game-changing solutions to improve endodontic success.

Advance Your Endo with Apical Negative Pressure Irrigation

This Viva Learning™ CE webinar is designed to present the latest innovation in endodontic irrigation. Endodontic rotary instruments have achieved an extraordinary ability to shape canals but it is the chemical debridement with irrigation that we rely on to truly cleanse the root canal systems. Given that our instruments do not reach the majority of the canal wall surfaces, we now are depending on newer and more innovative techniques and technology to thoroughly irrigate the root canal anatomy while still protecting the periapical tissues. This CE webinar will include discussion on the apical negative pressure technique. Included in the discussion is a specific irrigation device that can be used to effectively deliver apical negative pressure during irrigation.

During this CE webinar, the student will:

  • Learn how important irrigation (chemical debridement) is to the successful outcome of endodontic treatment
  • Learn about the anatomical complexity of the root canal systems we treat
  • Learn about the apical negative pressure irrigation technique and how it minimizes the risks and maximizes the effectiveness of apical irrigation
  • Learn the evidence based support for the apical negative pressure technique as an effective method to improve clinical outcomes
